Currently, when SignCAD signs are imported into ORD, labels and dimension text do not import as standard editable ORD text. Instead, the text is brought in as individual characters. This makes simple annotation edits difficult and time-consuming, especially when the sign design itself is already correct and only the label presentation needs to be adjusted for detail sheets.

Editing the imported characters individually is cumbersome because users need to manipulate separate letters or graphic elements instead of editing one complete text string. This creates unnecessary rework for minor plan-production cleanup, such as improving readability, adjusting label placement, or adding alignment and station information.

Requested Improvement

Change the SignCAD-to-DGN import behavior so associated labels and dimension text are converted, at a minimum, into editable ORD text lines instead of individual characters.

Ideally, the imported annotation would be converted into formatted ORD multi-line text elements that preserve the intended formatting, grouping, spacing, and readability. This would give users better control over plan-production annotation while keeping the actual SignCAD sign design intact.

The intent is to preserve the SignCAD sign design while making the supporting annotation more usable in ORD. Users should be able to adjust label placement and readability, or add alignment and station information, without editing characters one by one or risking changes to the actual sign design.

SignCAD should remain the source of truth for official sign design changes. Any edits that affect the sign message, dimensions, layout, spacing, symbols, borders, or standards compliance should still be made in SignCAD and re-imported. This enhancement would only improve how supporting annotation is brought into ORD for plan-production cleanup.

Suggested Improvement

• Preserve the imported SignCAD sign design.

• Convert labels and dimension text, at a minimum, into editable ORD text lines.

• Ideally convert labels and dimension text into formatted ORD multi-line text elements that retain useful text formatting and grouping.

• Avoid importing annotation as individual characters when editable text is needed.

• Allow annotation cleanup without modifying the actual sign layout.
