Reinforcement is typically tied together and is 3D modeled to reflect that. For example, a U bar tied into longitudinal/vertical bars. When a section cut is taken, the drawing models appears to show a single long U bar and not 2/3 separate bars. Being able to kink/offset/bend the longitudinal bars visually just where they overlap the U bar (or a specific location/distance) when detailing plan sheets would better show the design intent. This allows the 3D modeled reinforcement to maintain accuracy but also better illustrate design intent for the details
