OpenBuildings CATALOGs make it very easy to manage and retrieve data from multiple elements. Really making the I from BIM work.
There is nothing similiar to that in OpenSite or OpenRoad, but it should!
A very simple example is ifc shema class definition.
In OB, the catalog defines all the mapping. In OR / OS it has to be done for each feature definition or element through a ItemType THAT ONLY ACCEPTS ONE SCHEMA AT A TIME.
Want to do 4x3, but the whole workspace is set to 2x3, better luck next time...
Just think about DU: manhole should be a catalog type definition and we would set it to ifcFlowTerminal or something.. DONE, all manholes exported accordling..
No need to go to every manhole feature definition and add an item type with the ifc schema.
It's so much ahead in terms of BIM that it is disappointing..
When I was working with Revit and Civil3D I could understand the difference, since they are completly different softwares..
But OB and OS use the same microstation base.. You guys should do more internal talking.
