Place Template from template library in a drawing

We create typical cross sections as part of our plan set. I've seen guidance from Bentley on how to use different parts of the 3D corridor model to cut cross sections in specific places and then use those cross sections as the typical cross sections for the project. For our workflow, however, I don't think this would yield the results that we would need. The main hurdle is template correction. We use a template correction element when we need to make a slope correction, both on the roadway or as part of a trenched widening operation. We would not want this element to appear in the typical cross section. So, if we were to draw the typicals using the templates stored in the template library, I don't see how we could do that by creating a cross section of the typical being placed on a surveyed terrain. It would display elements that we wouldn't want to see.

I think this workflow would work better if we had a way to draw the template in a 2D view, shown similar to how it looks in the Edit Template window. If you could draw it that way and still synchronize it with the template library, that would eliminate any imperfections that cutting a section from a 3D model would create.

Have you tried the "Display Template" tool? Does this meet your needs? If it doesn't, what more could it do?
